I am president and principal consultant of Burton Consulting International (formerly Burton & Associates Consulting), a New York based consulting firm delivering a range of services including Technology and Management Consulting, Cross-Cultural Training and Business Development to companies operating in the Japanese market and to Japanese firms operating internationally.
I gained first hand experience of Japanese language and culture while living in Japan for over seven years, first while attending Kansai Gaikokugo Daigaku University in Osaka, Japan and then as I worked in education, as a cross-cultural trainer and business consultant to several Japanese firms in the fields of Importing/Exporting, Retail and Manufacturing. I trained Japanese clients in doing business more effectively internationally as well as writing collateral materials and initiated procedures to increase overseas customers and sales.
Upon returning to New York City, I worked in the Technology field in the areas of marketing and business development for a web development firm, and online marketing and advertising for the largest online job site where I designed and implemented sponsorship campaigns for financial, recruiting, and automotive clients. For several years I also worked as a business analyst for a leading technology consulting firm specializing in customized software solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.
I formed Burton Consulting International (BCI) to combine my Japanese language and cultural knowledge with my project management, marketing and technology consulting expertise to assist Japanese firms and U.S. firms doing business together.
As a bridge between two cultures, I have worked on client projects in areas including: Market Research and Analysis for a new division of large Japanese trading company entering a new market in the U.S.; Cross-Cultural Communications training for U.S. and Japanese business professionals; assisting a financial software firm in customizing its product for the Japanese market; working with a large medical software and equipment manufacturer’s IT division in the U.S. to plan customized upgrades to their sales/order management system for their office in Japan; and managing the export process for a chemical products manufacturer entering the Japanese market.
I am a member of Entrepreneur Association of Tokyo, and an ITAP International Alliance Associate. I have been profiled on www.WomenandBiz.com, a website for women entrepreneurs.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Economics from State University of New York, College at Brockport and an Asian Studies Certificate from the Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaikokugo Daigaku University in Osaka, Japan.
I started Japan-US news blog (JUS news) to provide a central online forum for business and cultural news coming out of Japan -US business world.
